HOLIDAY GREETINGS
I want to extend a heartfelt and warm Thank You to all of you, our dedicated and compassionate hospice volunteers.  The holidays bring to mind all of our blessings and gratefulness for the people in our lives that love us and help us.  I would be remiss to let this time pass by without recognizing all that you do for Adoray and hospice patients and families with a selfless and generous spirit.

On behalf of myself and all the staff at Adoray, we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!  Blessings to you and your families and friends.

Hospice Volunteer Mandatory Training for 2020
Mandatory Training for 2020 will be coming your way very soon.  We are now using Relias Online Education Software for our annual education.  The training is the same as what Adoray staff is required to complete, but with a module specifically designed for our hospice volunteers.  I will forward to you the information and links to access the training during this month of December, so please watch for the email and complete as soon as you are able.  If you do not have access to complete the online mandatory training or if you do not have an email address, we will provide you with an alternative training opportunity, stay tuned for more information. Thanks for your taking the time to complete your annual mandatory training.  This is a requirement to be able to continue as an active hospice volunteer throughout 2020.  Note:  If you are a new hospice volunteer in 2019, you are not required to complete the training this year.  Thank you!

Ongoing Education

Following is the link to the Deathbed Visions and Dreams In-Service from October. It is mostly audio, but there are 8-9 PowerPoint slides.  I encourage everyone to listen in on this presentation, which was sponsored by the Metro Area Hospice Volunteer Network.  Please report to me when you have watched it so I will record it in your file as continuing education.  Let me know your thoughts.  Enjoy!

Office Volunteer Spotlight
Eileen Makuch

Eileen Makuch is a dedicated office volunteer, helping assemble caregiver baskets for delivery to hospice patients, but more recently helps in the Adoray office weekly, scanning and entering patient charting documents, taking the place of volunteer Maggie McCoy.

Retiring in 2010 from the Baldwin Hospital as a dietician and then Quality Manager, Eileen continues to be active volunteering at Western Wisconsin Health and at her church. She started volunteering for Adoray in the office in March 2015 with her friend, Adoray volunteer Jenny Range.

Eileen admires Adoray for providing such a valuable service for the community and in the large area of Western Wisconsin, and so many people benefit from the help that Adoray provides.

“Adoray is wonderful,” she says.  Eileen lives outside Woodville with her husband Don.  Thank you, Eileen for your joyful and helpful spirit you bring to the office each week.  Thank you also to all of our office volunteers – we so appreciate all you do.

Volunteer Spotlight
Meet our newest Volunteer
Christine "Christy" Oferosky

Christy moved to River Falls one year ago to be closer to family.  One of her daughters and two grandchildren live in River Falls and she can help her daughter and enjoy her grandchildren.

One day she and her granddaughter were out exploring River Falls and they happened upon Treasures – River Falls.  They had fun shopping, and Christy notice a sign saying we were looking for Volunteers.  She was looking for a way to meet new people and she loves thrift store shopping…a match made in heaven!  She took a volunteer packet home with her and dropped it off the very next day.

We welcomed Christy aboard the first week of November.  We gave her an elf hat and put her to work tagging and setting up Christmas and Holiday merchandise.  It’s like Christmas every day in the breakroom, unpacking the stored boxes and seeing what has been saved throughout the year.  It takes many hands to get through all the boxes, so we are glad to have Christy’s help.

Christy also is a great people person.  She has a friendly smile and welcoming demeanor so she can also be found cashiering this busy time of year.  “We have a few snowbirds that have already flown the coop, so having another cashier has worked out well,” explained Jenny Hennemann.

When not volunteering and spending time with her family and grandchildren, Christy loves to sing and play guitar.  Her favorite music is Rock-a-billy and old-time classic country.  She plays and sings publicly and will be showing off her talents sometime in December at the River Falls store!

Christy is also an artist.  She loves working with wood and painting.  Her pieces are 2-dimensional nature scenes.  She sells her artwork at local Art and Craft Sales.

Christy is one busy lady!  We feel very fortunate that she and her granddaughter found us!  Welcome to TEAM Adoray, Christy!  Thank you for all you do for us!

Volunteer Spotlight
Sharon Germain

Sharon Germain is our featured volunteer this month.  Sharon became familiar with Adoray's services in 2010, when hospice services were provided for her husband.  Her experience with Adoray was so positive, she decided to give back to the organization and become a Treasures volunteer!

Outside of volunteering at Treasures, Sharon enjoys reading, golfing, watercolor painting, volunteering, gardening, family, cooking and baking.  We are fortunate to have her at our store a few days a month when she isn't busy with her hobbies.  And, sometimes she brings us her yummy baked goods!  Something interesting about Sharon is that she lived in a boy scout camp for 8 years - ask her about it if you get the chance :)

Sharon loves to travel and to experience new things.  Recently, she traveled to Ireland and stayed in many different communities to experience the landscape and culture there (see photo).

Sharon would encourage others to volunteer with Adoray because it is a great opportunity to do something Meaningful and to Meet New People and Have Fun - ALL AT THE SAME TIME!

Sharing a sweet story from last week

Our manager Linda stopped briefly at the store today on her day off and in God's timing a customer there approached her saying," today we have decided to put my parent in hospice care, so I couldn't think of a more appropriate place to come shop and spend some time." Sending hugs to this customer/ friend. We experience things every day that humble us by showing we are more than a store.
Thankful for our community of volunteers, donators, staff and customers.
