Thank you!

It was great seeing so many smiling faces at our Volunteer Appreciation Event in Baldwin.  What a beautiful day.  Adoray is so very blessed to have you all helping us serve our patients and their families.  Whether you are a Hospice Volunteer, Office Volunteer or Treasures Volunteer the hours you serve do not go unnoticed.  Your service is the backbone of our organization.  Without your help we would not be able to offer the many services to our patients and their families.  Our stores would not be the shopping destinations that they have become.

Thank you!  The words do not seem to be large enough, but they are genuine.  You make Adoray a better place and we are all grateful for your service.  Wishing you all good health and blessed fall!

Joleen Larson - Treasures from the Heart General Manager

As I write this, Labor Day is looming, marking the end of summer for those of us who live in the upper Midwest. Although we feel the finality of the season’s passing, for me it is a hopeful time. With the end of something, there is inevitably a new beginning. We have the cool, crisp days of autumn and the beautiful colors they will usher in to look forward to. We can anticipate wonderful produce at the farmers’ market or even some exciting Packer/Badger football games! In any case, this change for me is hopeful.

In a similar way, the change for me as the new volunteer coordinator at Adoray is also hope-filled. The interactions in person, on the phone and via email with you have been encouraging. I am genuinely impressed by your kind and generous spirits, and the time you make to help our hospice patients and families. We have opportunities for even greater outreach in the days ahead. Some of the efforts I have been working on are:

  1. Implementing volunteer software to assist in placing you where you want to serve
  2. Renewing our volunteer commitments to programs already in place, such as the birthday bouquet delivery and pet therapy
  3. Researching new opportunities to serve the patients through life review or storytelling (in the very early stages!)

As we move ahead with these areas, I am looking forward to getting to know you all better and am hopeful that together we will accomplish much.

Happy Fall!

We had our final Sing and Bark event at Christian Community Homes in Hudson last week. The Peace in the Valley Singers brought a wonderful show, as always, and we had a great group of pups to spread joy to the residents and staff. Adoray would like to send a huge thank you to everyone in our Sing and Bark group for making these shows possible.

It has been a joy to bring this event to residents and staff at facilities in our community!

We hope to offer these event again in the future.

If you have a well-behaved dog and you be would be interested participating in future Sing & Bark - please contact Amber at a.bettinger@adorayhomecare.org. Watch the newsletter for future dates!

I hope you and everybody’s family and friends are doing great and enjoying the pleasant weather! I want to say “Thank You” for all your support, while we have gone back to wearing masks. Volunteering can really be attached to many things in our lives. We are required to wear the masks, however, we are somewhat volunteering an action to help reduce the Covid transmission. We also need all Volunteers to take their body temperature, before you arrive to volunteer. You can log your temperature reading next to your hours that you work on that day, on your Volunteer Hours Record Sheet.

Happy Back to School! While the students return to their learning and studies, I have a reminder for logging all your Volunteer Hours. Volunteering is something each and everyone of you should take pride in, as we share the same level in our gratefulness for all you do. Please log the date and hours you volunteer on your Volunteer Hours Record Sheet. I collect these quarterly from the Store Assistant Managers and keep records on each Volunteer and their service. Within Adoray, we have other reports that pertain to the total Volunteer Hours we have been blessed with by all of you. I know some people feel like they don’t want to make too much fuss or feel like it’s not important to log the hours they work. Without our Volunteers, no matter how much time you can share with us, we would not be able to service our patients. It’s a big deal, you should be proud of your time donated and see how minutes and hours turn into a larger total. If you have any questions, please see any of the staff at your Treasures locations and they can provide help.

As the Fall Season is fast approaching....We at Treasures continue to “Fall in love” with our Volunteers!

Greetings from River Falls Treasures!

Marilyn Dusek is our volunteer that I would like to share with you this month! Marilyn has been with us for many years and has given of herself and time. She is on a regular schedule as a cashier, she assists with cutting price tags, stickers, tying hangers, pricing books, returning items to the sales floor, just to name a few things. She can help us when a last-minute need arises. She is our shrink wrap extraordinare! We receive various donated items that come in pieces and parts, such as: kids wooden and cardboard puzzles, silverware sets, collections of minted coins. She uses her fabulous skills to wrap these items to display them in a clean, tidy and wonderful way for the store and customers alike. Marilyn, thank you for all you do for us! Your attitude smile and high standard of appearance for our store is greatly appreciated. Now…we don’t want you to think or say, “Well, I don’t know about that!”, haha. You deserve the credit!

A wonderful story shared by Joyce in Osceola...

We received a very nice donation a couple of weeks ago. The gentlemen that we received this from was a 2/3 X and a size 14 shoe and most had tags on. The donation included brand new very expensive shoes, fishing pants, all name brand etc. We wondered how long we would have 8 pairs of size 14 shoes at the store, LOL! On Saturday August 7th, I was out on the floor and watching a couple go thru the pants, shirts and the size 14 shoes. I was talking with another group of first time shoppers about our mission and welcoming them to the store when this couple overheard my conversation. Julianne, the wife, explained that their son was a size 14 shoe and a 2X avid fishermen! She then shared that she was going thru treatment for endometrial cancer. I wanted to hug her but we air hugged. I shared that it was meant for them to be in our store for the first time & find such a great treasure and store! Julianne shared.. "As someone living with endometrial cancer, it was exciting to find a wardrobe for our son! We love your support!"
