Hospice Volunteers!

The Olympic games always bring out the best in athletes. What we see on TV during the trials and the actual games is only a moment in time compared to the years of early rising, practice, and working out.  One story from the past Olympics stands out to me as a testament to that hard work; not to mention perseverance, determination, and triumph over adversity. It’s the story of Wilma Rudolph, a woman whose journey from battling polio to becoming an Olympic champion is nothing short of awe-inspiring. This story was shared with me by Marilyn Sherman, a motivational speaker I met a while ago, and I want to share it with you.

Born in 1940 in Clarksville, Tennessee, Wilma was one of 22 children. She faced immense health challenges from the start, contracting polio at just four years old. This left her with a twisted leg and foot, and doctors said she’d need a brace to walk, maybe for life.

But Wilma’s family wasn’t about to give up. They rallied around her with daily leg and foot massages, and her mom drove her 50 miles away every week for treatment. Their love and support, coupled with Wilma’s own indomitable spirit, saw her walking without a brace by the age of nine and fully recovering by twelve.

In high school, Wilma discovered sports. She became a star basketball player, and her speed and agility caught the eye of the track and field coach at Tennessee State University. With his guidance, Wilma eventually joined the track team and began her journey to greatness.

Her hard work and dedication paid off. At just 16, she qualified for the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne and brought home a bronze medal in the 4x100 meter relay. But that was just the beginning.

Wilma’s defining moment came at the 1960 Rome Olympics. She shattered records and became the first American woman to win three gold medals in a single Olympics, dominating the 100-meter, 200-meter, and 4x100 meter relay events. She was dubbed "the fastest woman in the world."

This was during the Civil Rights Movement, making her victories even more powerful. Wilma Rudolph was more than an athlete; she was a beacon of hope and resilience, showing the world what could be achieved with determination and hard work.

In 2004, the United States Postal Service honored her by issuing a commemorative stamp as part of the "Distinguished American" series. This stamp celebrates her achievements and contributions to sports and society, recognizing her as a pioneering athlete and inspirational figure.

Wilma Rudolph’s journey is a reminder that no matter the obstacles we face, we can rise above them. Her story is one of grit, perseverance, and the power of a supportive community. Let’s take her incredible journey as inspiration to tackle our own challenges head-on and keep pushing toward our dreams.

Remember, you can achieve greatness. Stay inspired, stay motivated, and keep living life in the front-row!

Welcome Volunteer Teresa Lynch to the River Falls Team!

Teresa hails from the Twin Cities Metro area, moving to River Falls a little over a year ago to be closer to her family.  Always dreaming of owning her own small retail business, she found us at Treasures.  With a warm smile and engaging can-do attitude Teresa fits right in with the Cashiering Team.

When not volunteering she absolutely adores taking care of her 18-month-old granddaughter.  Teresa is grateful to be able to have the time to spend with family and has made great friends here in River Falls.  She especially enjoys walking the many walking paths around the community as well as having time to read and watch her favorite Brit Box TV.

Stop in on Tuesday late afternoon or Saturday afternoon and visit with Teresa. Thanks Teresa for volunteering, we are happy you joined Team Adoray!

Our Volunteer of the month is Pam Donahue.

Pam is originally from Northbrook, IL. Pam now lives in Baldwin, where she not only volunteers at Treasures, Pam also Subs at the School, and volunteers to take special needs adults on trips. Pam enjoys taking classes at The Centre in New Richmond.

Pam chose Adoray because both her in-laws had hospice, the Volunteers were wonderful,  and Adoray is a very worthwhile cause. In Pam's spare time, she loves to read and travel. Thank You, Pam, for sharing your time with us.

We will be hosting an
End of Summer Appreciation Lunch on Friday, August 30.
Hope you can make it!

A warm welcome to these new volunteers. Thank you for joining us and sharing your gifts!

July has been a busy month for our team!

We kicked off our 8th Anniversary week with a fun pizza party at Trap Rock Brewing. We celebrated ALL of our birthdays with ice cream sundaes and George introduced us to a new game too!

Wednesday evening was our traditional Adoray Night at the Osceola Braves Game. We had a great time selling 50/50 raffle tickets and filling the truck with donations! Tia did a beautiful job singing the National Anthem and a fun night was had by all.

A very special thank you to everyone who participated and/or worked a shift during our Anniversary Week. You ALL make our store a success!!

Mary and Judy enjoy working together and now even wear matching shoes! They are so darn cute, we needed to share a picture 🙂

Debbie and her friends made planters from some Treasures-sourced materials. Aren't these just the most fun!!

Connie spent a wonderful few days with her family at the Laura Ingalls Wilder experience in Walnut Grove, MN. She even got to have lunch with Miss Beadle!

Wishing you all a great summer!

Adoray Volunteers Needed!!
As our census grows - so do our requests for Volunteers from our patients and families. We are in need of more Hospice Volunteers. If you know anyone who would be interested in sharing their gifts and time to help care for our community.
Please have them contact Martina.

We are also in need of cashiers at our Baldwin and River Falls stores.
2 person teams would be great! We are hoping to find two friends or family members to come 1 afternoon a month or every other week and share a shift cashiering together! What a Great way to meet people and spend time with your friend or family member while giving back to your community!

If you know of anyone who would like to Volunteer at one of our wonderful Treasures from the Heart stores.
Please have them call the store they are interested in Volunteering at directly.
